~ Team Dirt Dog's Scott Govertsen Lends Support To Fellow Pro Stock Drivers
by Rob Hazer
Fonda, NY | Dec. 6, 2016 – Scott Govertsen has a racing story to tell. It’s full of ups and downs, but one thing remains the same; his passion to support his fellow Pro Stock competitors. Starting at the King Of Dirt Racing Night Of Champions Banquet on January 14th, his very own Team Dirt Dog Apparel Company will title sponsor the lap leader award each season.

In 1984 Govertsen started his racing career on the high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway with a medium block ’71 Monte Carlo. That career took on a personality of it’s own, which eventually progressed the fun loving full-fender pilot to the Pro Stock division where he found success for many years.

June 2004 was a somber note in Scott Govertsen’s racing career, as long time crewmember Rob Zucco passed away. After Super Dirt Week that year, the crew decided to take some time off and go their separate ways. Scott spent his time go-kart racing and skiing with his daughter for the next 12 years.

Once his daughter left for college, he had a void to fill. He seemingly had no plan and no projects at home, be it working on a race rod or tending to his fatherly duties. Govertsen got the itch all over again, but the game had changed and he was ready for the challenge of crate racing.

With his youngest daughter Krissy driving his desire, Scott not only built a race rod, but also ventured into the ultra competitive world of racing apparel. He’d team up with Dirt Dog to offer custom apparel after a stirring interview that blew the CEO away. With all proceeds of his sales going to benefit his team and racing ventures, Govertsen decided to give back to his peers.

After sharing a series of conversations with King Of Dirt Racing promoter Rob Hazer, the Team Dirt Dog Apparel Lap Leader award for the Pro Stock division came to fruition. Dan Older will receive a custom Dirt Dog hoodie and $250 courtesy of Scott Govertsen and Team Dirt Dog Apparel at the banquet in January.

“Scott’s been around for a long time and we just started chatting at Lebanon Valley one night about his business. That led to the offer to title sponsor the lap leader award and he liked the idea. He’s one of those guys like Robbie or Nick that want to give back to the division they love. He’s a good guy and we look forward to having him on board for as long as he wants to present the lap leader award,” said KOD promoter Rob Hazer.

Last year the King Of Dirt Racing Series packed the banquet hall at the Winner’s Circle Restaurant and expects to do so again this year. With space being limited, everyone attending is asked to be prompt with ticket sales. Please send checks or money orders made out to King Of Dirt Racing along with a list of names in your party no later than January 2nd.

The KOD Night Of Champions Banquet Party is scheduled for January 14th at the Winner’s Circle Restaurant in Fonda, New York. There will be dinner, dancing, fun, and friends to close out the 2016 season. Also announcements for the 2017 season will first be made at the banquet for those in attendance.
